The Animal Humane Society saves several animals from a cruelty case in Beltrami County. On Friday, December sixth, 2024, Animal Humane Society workers rushed to help several dogs and cats. They found 29 cats and 35 dogs, but they believe there are still 170 pets unaccounted for. Before that day they heard of the terrible events happening at a rural property in Beltrami County, and they started to prepare for as many as 300 animals by adjusting their normal intake, creating temporary housing, and borrowing crates and kennels from other rescues.

When they inspected the animals, they discovered many of them had injuries and illnesses. Several of the dogs had physical injuries due to fighting over feces, their only source of food. The cats lived in cramped, filthy cages while the dogs roamed the property even in the cold. The dogs slept in small sheds crowded with trash in dirty dog beds.

The Animal Humane Society gave all the pets medicine and lots of love. They hope the pets will be ready for adoption in three to four weeks. The former owners have been arrested by the Beltrami County Sheriff's Office.
